Child’s breastfeeding: 40% breastfeed their children up to 06 months only with breast milk

AfricaPresse 15 Dec 2024 Cameroun, Echos de l'Est 956 Lectures

The above percentage was given during the presentation launched by UNICEF in Bertoua, to train medias on how to create the awareness on breastfeeding mothers on the important of breast milk on both the child and their parents.

Bread feeding   is one of the most   accurate ways to ensure the well-being of Children. According to the presentation done by the point focal of UNICEF on the 18/11/2024, more than 90% of mothers breast feed their children but only 40% breastfeed their children up to 06 months only with breast milk.  KONTE EUNICE a Young lady of 28 years and a mother of two in east region affirms that she has never given artificial milk to her children. “I have never giving artificial milk to my children due to the fact that my mother had always made me to understand that breast milk is the best and again, artificial milk is so costly and I cannot afford it.”

Maurine LOM a small trader in the center market in Bertoua, in her early twenties testified to have breastfed her daughter up to the age of 2 years without giving her artificial milk. She said “from the lectures I got from the hospital and from sensitization from public health, I am convinced that breast milk is the best for the child and i see artificial milk not only as wastage of resources but also as a risk to my child because it can easily affect the child if proper care is not taken of.”

Contrary to Eunice and mourine,  Ketalle Joy , a worker in Micro finance institution, age 36 and a mother of four(04)  said” amongst all my four children, only one was breast fed up to the age of two without artificial milk.” She also said “she did not give artificial milk to her first son because she had nothing doing then but when she started working, it was not easy for her to breastfed her children accordingly thus i had to give them artificial milk.” She ended up by saying that “there is a great difference between my children in terms of strength because when u looks at the child that was breastfed only with breast milk, you will notice he is more powerful than the ones that I had given them artificial milk and water before 06 months”

Child bread feeding help more than 21% of children to reach their first anniversary as compare to children given artificial milk, help to prevent the risk of obesity on children and also help to ensure a great beginning of life to a child.
